Marty Bell has brought the Quincy University men's basketball team back to prominance. Bell led the Hawks to the Sweet Sixteen of the 2009-10 NCAA Division II National Tournament, marking the first time in school history they reached that far in the tournament.
Entering his eighth year as head coach Bell has compiled a 126-82 overall record, leading the team to four National Tournament appearances and three 20-win seasons. On June 11, 2007 Bell was also named the Quincy University Athletic Director.
Prior to coming to Quincy, Bell served on the coaching staff at Drake University. While at Drake he served as the assistant coach 1996-99. Prior to the 1999-2000 season he was named associate head coach. Duties included on-floor coaching and practice organization as well as recruiting and team transportation and travel arrangements.
Bell began his coaching career at Lock Haven University and moved from there to Indiana University (Pa.).
On April 10, 2003 he became the 14th head coach in Quincy University men’s basketball history. Since arriving here he has quickly re-established the Hawks as a force, finishing in first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division during the 2005-06 season.
Bell, a native of Williamsport, Pa., graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1985 with a degree in Business Administration. He completed his master’s degree in Education at Penn State University while coaching at Indiana (Pa.).
