QU CHOIRS PERFORMS WITH CULVER-STOCKTON COLLEGE CHOIRS
Quincy University’s Music Department Choirs will be joined by Culver-Stockton College Choirs to perform Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem on Sunday, March 26, at 3 p.m. in St. John’s Parish, 701 Hampshire Street, Quincy.
Kristin Ramseyer, QU director of choirs, noted that this performance of Duruflé’s Requiem unites both the greater Quincy community and the Culver-Stockton College and Quincy University Choir communities. Ramseyer will be the conductor.
The performance also features world-renowned guest organist David C. Jonies, director of music and organist of Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago. Jonies has performed at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, Westminster Abbey and the London Handel Festival in the U. K., the Pusan Bach Festival in South Korea, the Cathedral at Budejovice in the Czech Republic, the Bluval Music Festival and the Cathedrals of Bamberg, Mainz, Passau and Trier in Germany.
Two guest solos will join the choirs: Joshua Ramseyer, baritone from Quincy, Ill., and Lisa Blake, mezzo soprano from Edina, Mo.
“Quincy University choir students have faced the challenge of the Duruflé’s Requiem with hard work, determination, open-mindedness and trust,” Ramseyer said. One QU choir student added, “Lately I have been appreciating music from different time periods, different cultures, and different genres so I think this attitude has helped me embrace this work even more during the practice and rehearsal journey.”
