QU music education major Ian Malaney auditioned for and was accepted into the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps.  This is a prestigious music organization based in Dubuque, Iowa that competes all over the country in the summer as part of Drum Corps International. Ian will be a member of the trumpet section.

The audition consisted of marching and playing. To prepare for the audition, Ian spent many hours in the weeks prior to the camp practicing and refining the excerpts and exercises they gave him to record and send in and to do in person at the 3-day audition camp.

Ian said, “I think being accepted into this really shows how much I’m taking the right steps to master my craft and get all the experience I need to be a great music teacher when I’m out of college.”

Ian is a freshman from Quincy and is a QU Virtuoso Music Scholarship recipient.

“The QU Music Program is very proud of Ian and his dedication to becoming an outstanding musician. His hard work is paying off, and we are excited to see him perform as part of the Colts,” said Christine Damm, Dean of the School of Fine Arts and Communication.
