In an assertive step toward defining its future and reaffirming its commitment to faith- and values-based education, Quincy University announces the unveiling of its new Mission, Vision and Values Statements.

As part of a comprehensive strategic initiative, the new mission and vision reflect the university’s dedication to academic excellence, community engagement, and its Catholic and Franciscan heritage, all while focusing on preparing students to lead lives of purpose and service.

“While ours is a wonderful tradition, Quincy University is updating its mission and other statements to meet the needs of the twenty-first century,” said Brian McGee, PhD, QU president. “Our updated mission and vision rightly focus on the great need for servant-leadership, consistent with our Franciscan heritage.”

New Mission Statement: Quincy University is a Franciscan, Catholic, and liberal arts institution emphasizing the development of servant-leaders.

The revised mission statement emphasizes the university’s commitment to its Catholic and Franciscan values while acknowledging its responsibility to educate and prepare students for leadership in a rapidly changing world.

New Vision Statement: Informed by the Franciscan and Catholic intellectual traditions, Quincy University’s commitment to the development of the whole person will provide individuals with the knowledge, skills, values, and experiences necessary to become servant-leaders with integrity, empathy, and a commitment to the common good.

The new vision statement outlines a bold future—one where students not only excel in their academic pursuits but also take up roles as catalysts for change in their communities and the world. It underscores the importance of the university as a transformative institution, fostering leaders who live out their faith and values in their professional and personal lives.

New Franciscan Values Statement: Quincy University embodies the spirit of St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi, who encouraged each person to discover and to actualize one’s God-given potential for one’s good and the good of others and to point to the source and giver of all our gifts.

“The new Mission, Vision and Values Statements represents the involvement of the whole University Community in its formulation,” said Fr. John Doctor, QU Vice President for Mission and Ministry. “The ad hoc Committee wholeheartedly accepted the responsibility to carry out the mandate from the Board to review and to revise the Mission Statement. We were able to create a synergy among ourselves that made the nine-month process enlivening. The Ad Hoc Committee felt blessed by this awesome responsibility.”

The QU mission and vision statements were approved unanimously in draft form by the Quincy University Board of Trustees, at its Fall 2024 meeting. The statements were reviewed and approved with final revisions by the ad hoc Committee on Mission, Vision, and Values and the President of the University, February 6, 2025. The members of the QU community had many opportunities to review and make comments on various drafts of the statements.
